Recovery in Christ

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19

The Problem with Addiction

Addiction is a condition in which a person develops a physical and psychological dependency upon a chemical (like alcohol) or a behavior (like gambling). Addiction is a powerful force that first takes control of the mind, then the body, and ultimately the soul of those who succumb to it. It is one of Satan’s strongest weapons.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

Problems in life cause feelings of dis-ease leading us to seek ease and comfort either in the world or in the presence of God. The loss of self-control linked to addiction results in feelings of shame, guilt, and fear. These spiritual problems require spiritual solutions, and apart from God there is no lasting reprieve.

“For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.” Romans 7:15

Without the willpower to stop, the addicted continue to destroy themselves (and often others). The recognition of powerlessness and unmanageability is the first step to recovery and can be the basis of a spiritual awakening.

There is Hope in Jesus

Accepting that you need help is a good place to be. Coming to trust that Jesus loves you and possesses the power to heal you is another important step toward recovery.

Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me…. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Jesus is especially interested in helping the weak and helpless. He invites everyone—including the addicted—to a new start. No matter your past, there is hope for your future when you surrender your life to Christ.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28

Amazingly, Jesus works to heal hurting people through other wounded people. As a body of Christians, it is our privilege to share the compassion and mercy of Jesus with others.

We invite you to join us. You may feel isolated and alone, but you don’t have to be. We would be honored to walk the path of recovery with you.

"You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  Matthew 22:39
